Welcome

The churches in Glenfield are working in partnership to reach out to the young people in the community.

Katie Balfour

My name: Katie Balfour

Job: Qualified Youth Worker

I have been doing youth work for the past 11 years. I have worked in a variety of different settings from churches, youth centres, activity centres and rural village projects.

The best thing about youth work is that there are so many opportunities to do new and exciting activities and to learn new skills. The best skill I ever learnt was Archery – being able to teach archery to young people. It was so fantastic to see young people doing a sport they didn’t think that they would succeed at.

Schools Work

We lead school assemblies in The Hall School and Glenfield primary School. At Glenfield Primary School, we are also helping the Year 6's with the transition to High School. We look at team building, working together, coping with new situations and the hopes and fears of moving schools.

At Anstey Martin High School, we are helping with R.E. lessions, by offering resourses and leading lessons on Christianity.

Backchat

This is a self esteem course for young women. We are running courses at Anstey Martin High School and Longslade Community College. These groups meet weekly and we talk about a variety of issues and topics. The young women set the agenda in order for them to get the best use out of the group. We have talked about relationships, family, friends, school, careers and self image.

NRG / PNG

NRG (energy) and PNG (Pathfinders Next Generation) is a joint youth club. We meet on a Monday night at St Peter’s Church Centre weekly and there is a variety of activities, sports, games, trips and discussions.

We are also on Facebook.

Work with the Glenfield Parish Council

We are currently working with the parish council to compile a parish plan. This plan is designed to find out from every member of the community what they think of Glenfield and what they would like see changed or added to make Glenfield even better.
